Doctoral Regulations

Since 2008 all doctoral degrees at the TU Berlin (with the exception of the doctorate in public health) are awarded according to the Regulations Governing the Conferral of Doctorates at the Technische Universität Berlin – Berlin Institute of Technology, a (non-binding) English version (PDF, 126,6 KB) of which is available for download.

Patents and Licences

If the dissertation includes results to be protected by patents, candidates can apply for a stay of the publication (normally 2-3 month) until the patent has been applied for.

Good Scientific Practice

In 2002 the TU Berlin has enacted new Guidelines for the Safeguarding of Good Scientific Practice based upon the recommendations of the German Rectors’ Conference and the German Research Foundation (DFG). All people involved in research and academia have to adhere to these rules and standards.

The guidelines are an elementary part of the education and supervision of early-stage researchers at the TU Berlin and violations of those rules will be investigated and sanctioned according to the available measures for each group of member at the university.

Furthermore, the TU Berlin has established a Commission for the Investigation of Scientific Misconduct including an ombudsperson for related problems.
